After several years hiatus, NER introduces Gimmick Rallies again with the Speed Limit Adventure

Gimmick Rallies are fun drives for the entire family with the added ingredient of competing for prizes by solving puzzles or tasks.

The route will be exclusively on two-lane byways and through scenic and rural areas west of I495 and north of I290.

In the Speed Limit Adventure, participants will meet at the starting point, Minuteman Airfield in Stow, Massachusetts, at 9 AM*. At check-in, participants will receive route directions, scoring sheets, PCA waiver, and we will verify your COVID waiver. Following an orientation and safety briefing, we will send cars off at one-minute intervals. The tour will take two hours at a leisurely and legal speed. Each car must have a driver and a navigator, both adults 18+, and the navigator must be in the front, passenger seat.

*8/9 UPDATE: To comply with the recent change in Massachusetts gathering size limits, start times may be staggered into 2 run groups to ensure as many cars as possible can participate with full consideration for your health and safety.

The task for this event:

Adults will add up the values of all white speed limit signs, and subtract the values of any other color speed signs along the route.
Kids can, with adult audit, count convertible cars with and without their tops down, horses and tractors. There will be a tie-breaker task.

On arrival back at the endpoint, which is the same as the starting point, after checking in and turning in scoring sheets, there will be an opportunity to purchase refreshments and light lunches. When all cars have returned, and scores tallied, prizes will be awarded, and the official event will be over.

To minimize the risk of spreading COVID-19 we will do as much as possible to minimize the risk of infection, including:

  • All national and state rules and recommendations will be followed
  • Individuals with symptoms of COVID-19 will receive a full refund and cannot participate
  • The driver, navigator and all passengers in each car must be co-habitating the same residence
  • Organizers will wear gloves and masks and use hand sanitizer before passing participants any item
  • Scoring sheets will be dropped in a box upon completion of the course
  • There will be hand sanitizer available for participants
  • Masks are required at all times participants are out of their cars and not eating or drinking
  • Social distancing required between individuals, not from the same household
  • Parked cars must be separated by an empty space

Other rules:

  • All adults must sign a PCA waiver and a COVID waiver upon arrival at the event.

There are no restrictions on car models or types.

Thanks to Minuteman Airfield  and Nancy’s Cafe for use of their facilities for this event!
