A Message From the President

On behalf of myself and the Board of Directors, welcome to 2026! I am incredibly excited for the year ahead. Our Board has been working tirelessly to blend the best of our club’s traditions with innovative new ideas, ensuring there are activities for every member to enjoy all year round.

Board Updates & Governance

The full Board met in person on January 31 to discuss our roadmap for 2026. A primary focus of our meeting was improving how we communicate with you. To streamline our efforts, we have formed several key subcommittees:

  • Communication & Transparency: We are addressing how to best share Board happenings while managing risk and utilizing best practices. While the old bylaws required the posting of minutes and allowing all members to attend board meetings, this led us to a different question: How do we communicate with the full membership to ensure full transparency as to what is happening at the board level? Moving forward, you will receive more frequent newsletters featuring Board updates alongside club human-interest stories.
  • Website Refresh: A dedicated team is working on a total website overhaul to provide better activity overviews and participation guides. We expect a full release by Summer 2026.
  • Policies, Procedures & Bylaws: We have established committees to “Fix and Clarify” our bylaws and document checks and balances. This includes defining attendance policies for board meetings to ensure we remain effective while maintaining full transparency.

Upcoming Events & Activities

While the winter weather keeps us indoors for now, the Board is actively scouting new locations and fresh ideas. Keep an eye out for a membership survey coming soon to help us tailor our programming to your interests.

Driving & Track Events

  • Autocross (AX): The 2025 end-of-year event has been rescheduled for March 22 at Billiard’s Café. Registration for the 2026 season opens on Motorsportreg on March 1.
  • Driver Education (DE): Registration is open now!
    • Ground School: March 7 at HMS – perfect for those new to the track.
    • HPDE Primer: May 22 at Thompson – a low-cost, half-day opportunity to try DE for the first time.
  • The Ramble: Our Lake George event sold out in record time (under 3 hours!), promising a fantastic turnout.

Rallies & Tours

We are delivering on your requests for more driving tours:

  • Spring Rally: Sunday April 19 with a starting point at Billiards Café in Ayer MA. Registration is up on Motorsportreg.
  • Summer Rally: Currently in the planning stages.
  • Dow Fall Rally: Our annual tradition continues.
    We are intentionally spreading these events across the region to ensure every member has a rally or tour nearby.

Social Events

The Social Committee is expanding our “Cars & Coffee” locations and adding more tech sessions.

  • First Membership Social: Sunday March 15th at The Archive in Framingham MA.
  • New Concepts: We are working on a mix of seasonal events and reviving popular activities from years past.

A Message From The 2026 President Elect

A Message From The 2026 President Elect

First, on behalf of myself and other elected Directors, thank you!  We are all excited to serve the members of NER in the upcoming year.  We are already discussing and planning for a sensational year with some new events and adding new elements to those that already exist.  Please look for additional communication in the coming weeks.

Given the approval of the new bylaws, which were effective immediately, I wanted to ensure all those elected had a position on the Board of Directors.  I gathered all 2025 and 2026 elected officers to discuss how best to transition from the old bylaws to the new with a goal of doing what is best for NER.  As members were voting based upon the 2017 bylaws, we decided to maintain the 1-year term for 2026.  And while the roles of 6 of the 7 elected positions had a great match with the new board structure, the VP Driving role did not.  After discussion and acceptance by all, the VP Driving will hold the Vice President role on the Executive Council.

Per the new bylaws, the 2026 Executive Council met to appoint the 2026 Standing Committee Chairs in early December.  Please join me in welcoming the Executive Council and Board of Directors for 2026.

2025 Dow Rally Recap

This year’s Dow Rally visited Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts and took place on a gorgeous Fall Day. Thirty drivers made their way around an interesting 50-mile course while their navigators attempted to spot the answers to intentionally deceptive questions. This year we had one car with three passengers and it was Erik and Daryl Dow and daughter Hannah – yes, the Dow family that the Rally is named after. Great that they always participate, driving Charlie’s 911, to honor Charlie and Martha – two of the founders (in 1959) of our PCA region.

This year many of the questions were particularly obscure (although every question was answered correctly by at least one participant) and the winning team answered 25 of 30 questions correctly. There were four competitors with 24 correct so the second-place winner was decided on a tie-breaker and it went to Kimberly Lynch. 

But the winner of the Rally was Lisa Van Gorder (Team name OK’man – very clever!). Lisa claimed she had not done any NER events before – proving that the Dow Rally is a great entry point for the slippery slope that is PCA.  We’ll have her on the track soon!

The Rally also featured two other contests. While the participants were waiting to start, they were given the chance to answer the question “What was your most amusing automotive interaction with the law?” The three best answers (according to the subjective scoring of the organizers) were then given the chance to tell their stories at the end point luncheon. Robert Gomes, Tom Tate and Adam Wells all entertained the audience with their tales but Adam was voted the winner by the crowd.

Finally, our course creator Ann Strong picked Gary Hebner for taking the most professional line entering Rt. 6 to start the Rally.

PCA NER Meets the Treffen at Sea

I want to start with an apology! Between planning and attending events, this post is long overdue. Now that I have that out of the way, I wanted to recap an amazing event.

PCA Treffen at Sea was an event that brought together over 900 PCA members on a cruise ship from all over the country. The cruise ship docked in Boston on the Monday of the long weekend September 1st.

Preparations began long before that. I attempted to contact the port authority, and simply received the run around. Phone calls were made, emails were sent but no one responded. I went to the Raymond L. Flynn Black Falcon Cruise Terminal, to investigate where we could setup our PCA tent and perhaps show some cars. When there are no cruise ships docked the place is a graveyard. Following that attempt we decided that all we could do was show up on the day and pray that we didn’t upset any authorities and give a good showing.

Come the morning of the meet and greet and events were still conspiring against us. With help from Vu Nguyen and Manny Alban we found a spot that seemed appropriate. With help from Peter Palermo, we setup our tent and began parking some cars.

No sooner than we had setup, we were approached by officials who began to tell us that we were not allowed to setup here. But Vu saved the day and all was copasetic.

Over the course of five hours we met and greeted what felt like all 900 people off the cruise. We handed out refreshments and gifts courtesy of Hagerty as well as information about NER.

 

The rest of the day went without a hitch. As always, I would like to thank everyone that volunteered to help by manning the booth or bringing their wonderful automobiles. Thanks to Glenn Champagne our President, Betty-Mae Mosley our Secretary, Peter Palermo and Kevin Moran our VPs of Communication, Rich Archambault, Gary Cooper and Ashley Romeo. Apologies if I missed anyone.

Many accolades were received on the day and we received a personal thanks from PCA national for putting on such a great reception. Including this from Vu PCA Executive Director.

8th Annual Dow Rally – Registration Is OPEN!

About The Event

We do this rally in honor of the late Charlie Dow and his wife Martha – longtime, active NER and board members and all-around Porsche enthusiasts. Their kids will be attending so come and say HI!

The event was originally a tour but we switched it to a gimmick rally – you still get to drive a pretty course but now you must stay focused and attempt to answer questions about the landmarks you pass. You will have written directions and a GPS route as well.  Do people still get lost?  Yes.  Do drivers and navigators get in arguments?  Yes.  Has the event caused a divorce? Unclear.

Spend a Fall Sunday morning behind the wheel – is there any better place to be?  Only when it’s on a rally through the winding roads of southeastern Massachusetts and the Southcoast.  Beginning in Swansea, MA, we’ll put about 60 miles under our tires enjoying the fall scenery and keeping eyes peeled for answers to clues. The Dow Rally will end in Westport, MA with a hot luncheon buffet (Portuguese stuffed chicken, baked scrod, ziti and all the fixin’s).  Start and finish are both easy-on/easy-off Route 195.

The Details

The $65 entry fee includes the car and lunch for two. If there are more than two “eaters” then please let us know.

You should plan on a day that starts at 9am and ends around 2pm. 

HERE IS AN IMPORTANT POINT:  At the Newcomer’s meeting a common question was “I’m not sure that I want to jump into a DE or an autocross, what is the best activity for me to try first so I can meet other members?”  WELL, THIS IS IT!  (Or the Summer Party – that works too!).  This is a great event to bring a kid or kids and come in a Macan (or stuff the really small ones in the back of the 911).  The kids can help with the gimmick rally (they have better vision than you do and aren’t busy driving) and will have a blast.

2025 NER Concours Update – Registration is now CLOSED

UPDATE 9/18/2025:

REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED: With nearly 120 cars committed YTD we have reached our maximum of 120 for both Werks and Full Presentation Judging. Registration is closed but a waiting list will be established for those that wish to be considered. After September 29, 2025 no cancellations will be accepted and no refunds issued.  No day of the event registrations will be accepted. Only paid spectators and pre-registered participants will be allowed access.

The 2025 NER Concours has something for everyone!

Do you have a penchant for keeping your Porsche super clean? How about sharing your Porsche’s ownership story with fellow members? Or maybe you just want to see a lot of cool Porsches, all in one place?

A great way to do all of the above is to attend our annual Concours located on the grounds of the beautiful Elms mansion in sunny Newport, RI. 

Mingle with your fellow Porsche enthusiasts, and enjoy food and drink (available for purchase),  as you peruse the diverse collection of Porsches in attendance.

When will the 2025 Concours Be Held?

The 2025 NER Concours will be held 8:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday, October 4 on the back lawn of The Elms property, 367 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, RI during the Audrain Motor Week and Concours.

Concours entrants will have a choice between objective points-based Full classes and Werks classes where the history and stories behind Porsches are weighed by judges in a mostly subjective manner. Advanced Concours entrant registration will be $40, with day of the Concours registration, if available, $60.
